HOOVER DAM

HOOVER DAM

It’s been 15 years since I last visited the Hoover Dam. I was a young child back then, and I could remember the heavy traffic which lined the rim, as travelers crossed the state boundaries of Arizona and Nevada. I remember either side of the sidewalk being very crowded, as people parked on the side of the road to capture a simple “kodak moment”. I also remember seeking refuge in the shade as the triple digit weather seared the back of my neck.

During the my last visit, I met with my studio class to debrief about our current project. The sun was a few minutes from setting behind the tall canyon walls, and the parking garage was already empty. The congested dam traffic had now been diverted to an elegant bridge which spanned the width of the canyon. My experience was more peaceful this time, with a refreshing view to match.
