SCHOOL SETTING

When people imagine what it’s like to attend a university to pursue their education, there’s an excellent chance that a refurbished furniture warehouse in Barrio Logan isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. To be honest, it wasn’t what I envisioned either, and I had my doubts during my first semester here. As the school year carried on, my classmates shared stories about their car windows being smashed in, and gunshots fired late into night. It is interesting to think that these types of stories occur so often that the students become numb to such situations.

There is something special about this place, although it maybe difficult to understand at first glance. The culture of this city is raw and can be intimidating at times. Because of the given context, my educational experience is unique, and is an opportunity that I may only experience once in my lifetime.
