INDEPENDENCE DAY

INDEPENDENCE DAY

I hope everyone had a fun and safe fourth of July this past Wednesday. Iris and I made it an objective to celebrate as many holidays as we could this year, and Independence Day would be no exception.

Our day started with a small brunch at a local cafe. We often come here for their freshly baked croissants, which are used for breakfast sandwiches. Unfortunately for us, all the croissants were sold out, so we settled for the next best thing.

After eating, we headed towards Balboa park with intentions of taking our dog to the dog park. Instead, we ended up renting a surrey bicycle and took it all the way to Hillcrest. Andre, our Welsh Corgi, behaved so well as he rode in the front basket as we got our workout in. Upon returning the bike, I came across this gigantic tree, and couldn’t help but envision the type of tree houses I would build if I was granted permission to do so.

Although today was colder and more overcast than usual, Iris and Andre were all smiles.

For July 4th, the 5andaDime family had a little shindig going on at the embarcadero in preparation for the big bay fireworks show later that night. It was great meeting new people and learning new games like bocce ball and GOD.

Fresh cut lawn. Converse All-star’s. America.

The game of GOD is intense. The rules of GOD stems from hacky-sack type games, but basically combines soccer and dodgeball into one sport. Too much fun.

A busted shoulder didn’t stop Jay from pegging people with a soccer ball.

We left early so that we could spend some time with Iris’ family for dinner. They managed to get a small bonfire going as we ate some BBQ and s’mores.

What’s a July 4th celebration without some fireworks?

It was a very nice Independence Day to say the least. We had a great time celebrating with friends and family.
